As the date for the House of Representatives election approaches, political parties and candidates have started releasing their election manifestos. Among them, independent candidate Dr. Nicholas Bhusal from Rupandehi-2 has grabbed attention on social media with his bold manifesto.
Bhusal, who describes himself as an anti-corruption activist, is inspired by the motto, “Whether famous or infamous, never be anonymous.” His manifesto has provided both supporters and critics plenty to discuss.
His manifesto includes highly ambitious promises:
•Within one month: Fulfill all demands of the youth (Gen Z)
•Within three months: Refund loans to cooperative, microfinance, and high-interest borrowers
•Within one year: Provide free education, healthcare, security, water, and electricity
•Within three years: Create employment for all Nepalis and repay the nation’s debt
•Within five years: Build an economy of NPR 3,000 billion and make every Nepali a millionaire
The former Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital physician has also outlined policy proposals, including abolishing provincial assemblies and ministerial positions, and legalizing the sale of natural resources such as mines, water, forests, and medicinal herbs to trigger an economic revolution.
Other key proposals in his manifesto include:
•“Food for the hungry, water for the thirsty, treatment for the sick”
•Developing 108 tourist destinations and transforming Nepal into a “garden nation” with one crore tourists annually
•National pride projects: Vaikunthmarg, Path to Heaven, Seven Provinces Seven Chhatras, World-Class Stadium
Social media reactions have been mixed, with many considering his plans extremely ambitious and somewhat unrealistic.
